The main objective of the Doctoral Programme in Languages, Literature, Culture and their Applications that is offered jointly by the Polytechnic Univesity of Valencia and the University of Valencia, is to train PhDs in the field of Applied Linguistics. The aim is to train highly qualified researchers and professionals in the fields of knowledge related to philological studies, cultural and theoretical and applied linguistic studies. The recommended access profile for this doctoral programme consists, in short, in having a general solid humanistic training and a specific linguistic-literary training. That is, advanced grammatical knowledge and proficiency in one of the student's own languages and at least one foreign language; in-depth literature knowledge, as well as the ability to analyse and interpret texts at various levels; interest in social and cultural phenomena and, likewise, knowledge in other related areas of humanities.
The graduates’ profile shall be a PhDs in languages, literature, culture and their applications, specialised in any of the areas indicated in the objectives. Likewise, they shall acquire competences when interpreting and analysing results and disseminating them through the writing and presentation of papers.

Application procedures and requirements.
The pre-enrolment is the process by which a candidate applies for the admission to a doctoral programme.

Specific information for candidates outside the EHEA.
The pre-enrolment process is completely online. If you do not have a UPV user you will have to request one as a first step of the application. At the end of the pre-enrolment process you must upload a PDF copy of the required documentation. The originals (or certified / legalized copies) will be required later, after the official enrolment is done.
The Academic Commission of the requested doctoral program will study the application and in case of needing additional information, will contact the candidate. According to the Doctoral School’s Services Charter the deadline for resolving applications (duly submitted) is 45 days.
The enrolment is annual (by academic year) and, as in any other degree, must be renewed obligatorily during all the doctoral study period.
Access requirements for new students
Bachelor degree + masters degree, with a total of 300 ECTS (minimum) and of which at least 60 ECTS must be master level.
Degree of five years (or more) of previous plans (engineer, licensee, architect, ...) with an equivalence to master degrees.
Degrees from outside the EHEA with an equivalence to master degrees (must provide a certificate issued by the university of origin stating that the degree gives access to doctoral studies in the home country).

Copy of this documentation will be uploaded to the UPV server through the same pre-enrolment application (as a last step of the pre enrolment process). The format must be 1 PDF file per document.
The university valid recognitions.
As a general requirement of access, candidates must be in one of the cases of article 6 of RD 99/2011 or of the second additional provision of said Royal Decree.
As a specific requirement:
Students who meet the above requirements can access the doctoral program, and the Academic Committee of the program will be responsible for verifying compliance with the previous requirements for the admission of the doctoral student.
As admission criteria:
In order to assess the suitability of the candidates, the academic record will be considered in relation to the research lines they intend to develop, professional experience, as well as the level of competence in one of their own languages (Spanish, Catalan). All the merits that the candidate alleges in his / her curriculum must be accredited in a documentary manner and, if the Admission Commission deems it appropriate, through a personal interview.
Regarding the completion of these part-time PhD studies, applicants must justify the reasons (work, family, personal ...) for those who wish to benefit from this modality. The change of modality in the realization of these doctoral studies will be approved by the CA in view of the modifications in the conditions alleged by the applicants.
