Application Procedures

Application procedures and requirements.

Access requirements

The pre-enrolment is the process by which a candidate applies for the admission to a doctoral programme.

The requirements that the applicant must meet to be admitted are regulated by the Spanish Royal Decree 99/2011. Please note that the information shown here is just a summary. If you have any doubts, please contact the Doctorate School.

Specific information for candidates outside the EHEA.

The pre-enrolment process is completely online. If you do not have a UPV user you will have to request one as a first step of the application. At the end of the pre-enrolment process you must upload a PDF copy of the required documentation. The originals (or certified / legalized copies) will be required later, after the official enrolment is done.

The Academic Commission of the requested doctoral program will study the application and in case of needing additional information, will contact the candidate. According to the Doctoral School’s Services Charter the deadline for resolving applications (duly submitted) is 45 days.

The enrolment is annual (by academic year) and, as in any other degree, must be renewed obligatorily during all the doctoral study period.

Access requirements for new students

Bachelor degree + masters degree, with a total of 300 ECTS (minimum) and of which at least 60 ECTS must be master level.

Degree of five years (or more) of previous plans (engineer, licensee, architect, ...) with an equivalence to master degrees.

Degrees from outside the EHEA with an equivalence to master degrees (must provide a certificate issued by the university of origin stating that the degree gives access to doctoral studies in the home country).

Other Requirements

A PDF copy of the following documentation will be asked to complete a pre-enrolment in a doctoral programme:

  • Copy of an identification document (European ID, Passport, NIE, DNI).
For those who provide a copy of the passport, they must provide, as soon as possible, a copy of the N.I.E (Identification Number for foreigners) to be provided by the competent Spanish administration.
  • Degree and Academic Certificate (transcript of records) of all studies that are accredited to justify the access requirements (master and bachelor degrees)
Not necessary for studies carried out at the UPV
  • Currículum vitae, together with any other documentation proving merits.
  • Each doctoral program may establish as additional requirement the need to provide specific documentation: proposal of a research plan, proposal of thesis director, etc.
Check previously the section corresponding to each doctoral program.
  • If the Master's degree is from outside the EHEA, a certificate issued by the home university indicating that these studies give access to doctoral studies in that country.

Copy of this documentation will be uploaded to the UPV server through the same pre-enrolment application (as a last step of the pre enrolment process). The format must be 1 PDF file per document.

Recognition

The university valid recognitions.

Doctorate in Electronic Engineering

In duly justified cases (for example, that the student has job responsibilities, or is an elite athlete, etc.), the programme will admit part-time students.

The body in charge of carrying out the admission process to the programme shall be the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme in Electronic Engineering (CAPDIE), chaired by the Programme Coordinator and consisting of, in a balanced manner, doctors belonging to the different research structures of the Polytechnic University of Valencia in which the research lines covered by the programme are developed.

The admission criteria will take into account, from greater to lesser weight, the qualification of the applicants, the degrees (engineer, graduate, if applicable) and Master's degree completed by the applicant, their academic record and other merits of special relevance (previous participation in research projects, publications, etc.). The adaptation of the previous training (PT) of the applicants to the research lines of the programme is considered very important and, hence, the highest weight is assigned to the qualification and classification of the applications: 50%, distributed among undergraduate degrees or equivalent degrees (PTd) and university Master's degrees or equivalent degrees (PTm), with a weight of 20% and 30%, respectively.

Among many others, since the casuistry that can occur is too large to be covered it in its entirety, some examples of qualifications assigned to the degrees of the applicants are listed below:

  • Degree in Technical Telecommunications Engineering, specialising in Electronic Systems: 10/10.
  • Degree in Technical Telecommunications Engineer in Telematics, other speciality: 6/10.
  • Degree in Industrial Electronic and Automation Engineering 10/10.
  • UPV's Master’s degree in Electronic Systems Engineering: 10/10.
  • Telecommunications Engineer, speciality in electronic systems: 10/10.
  • Telecommunications Engineer, another speciality: 6/10.
  • Industrial Engineer, speciality in electronic and automatic systems: 10/10.
  • Industrial Engineer, another speciality: 6/10.

The academic record (AR) of the applicants reflects their performance throughout their years of previous training and, therefore, is considered as a very important criterion for the admission of applicants, with a weight of 40%.

Finally, other merits (OM) of special relevance for the development of the research activity are taken into account (previous participation in research projects, publications, etc.) with a 10% weighting of the total.
