The PhD Program in Health Sciences has a multidisciplinary character, integrating Human Nutrition with Food Science and Technology and Medicine, with the fundamental objective of forming scientists that generate results of direct application in society, in order to Produce advances in the area of ​​food and health, thus improving the quality of life of the population.

The doctorate plays a fundamental role in the intersection between the EHEA and the ERA, both fundamental pillars of the knowledge-based society. In addition, research is a very important part of university higher education, since the change of productive model towards a sustainable economy places doctors as the main actors of society to generate and transfer knowledge in an appropriate way.

On the other hand, one of the great challenges of today's society is health and well-being throughout life. To do this, we need to develop and maintain high-quality, economically sustainable health and care systems whose developments and advances are based on proven scientific evidence.

Application procedures and requirements.

Access requirements

It is recommended that students who enter the program have completed a bachelor's or master's degree in the areas of Health Sciences or Experimental Sciences.

The requirements for access to doctoral programs are established by Royal Decree 99/2011, of January 28, which regulates the official doctorate education, which establishes that, in order to access them, it will be necessary to be in possession of the official titles of degree, or equivalent, and of university master's degree.

They can also be accessed if one of these other assumptions is met:

  • Be in possession of an official Spanish university degree, or of another member country of the EHEA, that qualifies for access to a master's degree and have passed a minimum of 300 ECTS in the set of official university studies, of which at least 60 must be of Master's level.
  • Be in possession of an official Spanish degree, whose duration is at least 300 ECTS according to community law standards. These graduates must take compulsory training complements, unless the curriculum of the corresponding degree includes credits for training in research, equivalent in training value to research credits from master studies.
  • Previously, having obtained, university graduates, a place of specialized medical training or having passed with positive evaluation at least two years of training a program for obtaining the official title of any of the specialties in Health Sciences.
  • Be in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems, without the need for homologation, after verification by the university that the degree accredits a level of education equivalent to the official Spanish university master's degree and that it authorizes in the issuing country title for access to doctoral studies.
  • Be in possession of another Spanish doctorate degree obtained in accordance with previous university ordinances.
  • Be in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained in accordance with the provisions of RD 778/98, of April 30, or have exceeded the Research Sufficiency as regulated by RD 185/85, of January 23 through programs of doctorate linked to the field of Health Sciences.

Students who meet the above requirements can access the doctoral program, being the Academic Committee of the program responsible for verifying compliance with the above requirements for the admission of the doctoral student.

Doctorate in Nutrition and Health

Accoding to the Royal Decree 99/2011, of January 28, which regulates the official teachings of Doctorate in UCAM, whose purpose is to allow the classification, comparability and transparency of the qualifications of Higher Education in the Spanish education system.

To complete the regulatory framework set out in Royal Decree 22/2015, of 23 January, this Royal Decree has as its object the regulation of the requirements and the procedure for the issuance of the European supplement to the title of Doctor obtained according to the official teachings of Doctorate regulated in Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, and Royal Decree 99/2011, of January 28, in order to promote the mobility of graduates in the European Higher Education Area, including the expedition of the European supplements to the titles of Doctor of the Erasmus Mundus program and successive.

In turn, the following mentions and regulations are introduced: International Doctorate and Industrial Doctorate. The international co-supervision diligence is also introduced in the official university degree of Doctor. The social reality in which university graduates have to operate makes it necessary for the Government to regulate the mentions and requirements of the International Doctorate and Industrial Doctorate, as well as the international co-supervision diligence to guarantee the rights of Spanish university graduates in the European Space of Higher education.
